Photovoltaics since 1985 – a strong foundation

1985

Walter Leithold founds the company ARGE Solare System Technik. In the first year, one of the world’s first, technically-demanding stand-alone systems with alternating current technology systems is developed and implemented under the management of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.

1987

ARGE Solar System Technik develops building-integrated photovoltaic systems for the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE. In Kuwait, a greenhouse with integrated photovoltaics is constructed.

1991

The company, in the meantime renamed “Solare System Technik GmbH”, becomes the first company to be able to develop photovoltaic building façades in Structural Glazing technology.

1993

The Solar Centre in Freiburg is built with a photovoltaic façade using precisely this technology.

1995

The company demonstrates five challenging and differing PV mounting techniques on the biggest listed building in Baden-Württemberg, the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (Centre for Art and Media Technology) in Karlsruhe. This was also the first time that photovoltaic-produced electricity (100 kWp) was fed into the DC grid of the tram system with 1200 volts.

1997

The first wholesaler in Baden-Württemberg with exclusively solar products is established with the new name of “SolarMarkt GmbH”.

2000

A wooden noise barrier wall with integrated solar power modules is able to be developed.

2001

The photovoltaic noise barrier wall by the A1 in Switzerland between Bern and Zurich is put up.

2003

SolarMarkt moves into new premises to deal with the continuously growing need for storage space – particularly for the AluTec mounting system, brought on to the market in 2000, and which becomes a leading mounting system in Germany.

2004

An external depot for AluTec is built; 20,000 metres of rails are there ready when needed.

2005

SolarMarkt is one of the biggest photovoltaic traders in Germany.

2006

By becoming a Public Limited Company, the Freiburg-based SolarMarkt prepares the ground for further growth. Founding a Group with the Swiss SolarMarkt GmbH from Aarau is also part of the strategy of conquering European markets.

2007

2009

Europe project:
Agreement on the installation and maintenance of solar power systems at Lidl logistics centers in Europe (together with Enfinity NV, Belgium)

2010

25 years of SolarMarkt AG
The company celebrates a quarter of a century of success in the solar industry. In order to further expand its market position, the Freiburg-based company is merging with module manufacturer and full-line provider, Würth Solar.
